The art of readings

Tarot, astrology, numerology, intuition. Centuries-old traditions people still turn to when they want to pause, reflect and see their situation differently. Here's what each one is, and how it shapes your reading.

Tarot
A deck of 78 illustrated cards, each one a symbol: change, choice, love, endings, beginnings. Cards drawn in a spread become a story you can read your situation through.

Astrology
Your birth chart maps where the Sun, Moon and planets were at the moment you were born. Astrologers read it to describe temperament, cycles and the themes of a period.

Numerology
Numbers drawn from your birth date and name. Your Life Path number, for example, adds up the digits of your birthday to a single number, each with its own meaning.
Intuitive reading
The reader's own impressions and interpretation, woven together with the cards and the chart. It's what turns symbols into words about your situation.
Moon cycles
New moon for intentions, full moon for release. Many people use the lunar month as a simple rhythm for reflection, and it often colours the timing in a reading.
Connections
Readings that look at the bond between two people from both sides: what ties you together, and what stands between you.

78 cards, two arcana

Tarot began as a card game in 15th-century Italy and was later taken up as a tool for reflection. A deck has two parts:

The Major Arcana · 22 cards
The big life themes, from The Fool to The World: love, change, endings, new starts.
The Minor Arcana · 56 cards
Everyday situations, in four suits: Cups (feelings), Wands (energy), Swords (thoughts), Pentacles (work and money).

In a spread, each position has a meaning. A simple three-card spread reads past, present and the direction things may take.

More than your sun sign

The sign you know is your Sun sign. A full chart adds two more that astrologers look at first, which is why your birth date (and time, if you know it) matters.

Sun sign
Your core self: what drives you and how you shine.
Moon sign
Your emotional world: what you need to feel safe and loved.
Rising sign
How you meet the world, and how others first see you.
